Davallia fejeensis (Hare's Paw Fern)

Davallia fejeensis is native to Fiji, the Austral Islands and several islands of Micronesia in Oceania. This fern grows exclusively epiphytically, for this reason its rhizomes should never be buried deeply in the substrate when grown in pots. The rhizomes are covered with white-grey fuzz and therefore appear soft. Since their appearance resembles, with a little imagination, hare's paws, the fern is also called hare's paw fern. They usually come out in large numbers over the edge of the pot and form individual long-stemmed fronds at free intervals. The fronds are finely feathered and extremely delicate, which is why higher humidity is absolutely necessary.

A very similar species is the tarantula fern ( Humata tyermannii ), which is much more common.
